The case pertaining to Aadhar linking was taken up by Supreme Court Bench headed by Chief Justice today. During the course of hearing Attorney General KK Venugopal contended that the Government intends to extend the deadline to link Aadhar number with Bank accounts and other welfare schemes from earlier stipulated deadline of December 31, 2017 to March 31, 2018. It may be pertinent to mention here that this extension is only for those who are not Aadhar card holders yet.

Reportedly, in the case it was also prayed that the Centre does not take any coercive steps in the event of non-linking of Aadhar number with Bank accounts and other welfare schemes. Here it would be relevant to mention that the deadline to link Aadhar number with mobile numbers is February 06, 2018.

It is clarified here that the Centre has just expressed its intention to extend the deadline for Aadhar linking however no concrete decision with respect to extension has been taken.
