The Bombay High Court sought apologies from the Silvassa police for releasing the picture of a man engaged in a civil dispute . Earlier, the man, Hasmukhbhai Patel took a loan of INR 21.75 lakh from Kirtibhai Patel against his ancestral property. The agreement papers were made directing the sale of the property and the dispute occurred when Kirthibhai decided to move on with the sale.
A complaint was filed by Kirtibhai on the basis of which the metropolitan court directed the police to commence with the criminal proceedings. However, the sessions court granted bail to Hasmukhbhai on observing that it was a civil matter. But, the police went on with its decision of releasing a statement along with Hasmukhbhai’s picture.
On Tuesday, a division bench comprising judges VM Kanade and PD Kode stated that such an incident should not have occurred and directed the Silvassa police to issue an apology and print the same on page one of the newspapers.
